আজ সোমবার প্রচার শেষ হচ্ছে। এক দিন পরই চট্টগ্রাম সিটি করপোরেশন নির্বাচনে ভোট হবে। তবে ভোট নিয়ে আগের মতো আগ্রহ পাচ্ছেন না ২ নম্বর জালালাবাদ ওয়ার্ডের ভোটার মাহফুজুর রহমান। প্রথম আলোকে তিনি বলেন, ‘আগের মতো তো উৎসব নেই। যেটুকু হচ্ছে, তা–ও কাউন্সিলর পদে আওয়ামী লীগের বিদ্রোহী প্রার্থী থাকার কারণে। ভোটের দিন যদি পরিবেশ সুষ্ঠু থাকে, তাহলে হয়তো কেন্দ্রে যাওয়ার চিন্তাভাবনা করব।’
মাহফুজুর রহমানের মতো ভাবতে নারাজ লালখান বাজার ওয়ার্ডের মতিঝর্ণা বস্তি এলাকার বাসিন্দা জানে আলম। পাহাড়ের চূড়ায় তাঁর ছোট্ট দোকানের গলিটিতে মেয়র ও কাউন্সিলর প্রার্থীদের পোস্টারে ছেয়ে গেছে। প্রথম আলোকে তিনি বলেন, ‘আগের মতো হয়তো উৎসব নেই। একেবারে যে নেই তা না। এখানে বিকেলের পরই নির্বাচনের উৎসব শুরু হয়। পরিবেশ খারাপ দেখছি না। ভোট অবশ্যই দেব।’
চট্টগ্রাম সিটি করপোরেশন নির্বাচনে ১৯ লাখ ৩৮ হাজার ৭০৬ জন ভোটারের দুজন হলেন মাহফুজুর ও জানে আলম। ভোটের ভাবনা জানতে এ দুজনের মতো গত এক সপ্তাহে কয়েকজনের সঙ্গে কথা হয়েছে। ভোটের দিন কেন্দ্রে যাওয়ার পরিবেশ থাকবে কি না, এমন আশঙ্কা যেমন আছে, তেমনি ভোটকেন্দ্রে যাওয়ার কথা জানিয়েছেন অনেকে।
নির্বাচনের দিন শঙ্কার কথা জানালেন পাথরঘাটা ওয়ার্ডের দোকানের কর্মী রুহুল আমিন। জানালেন, বিএনপির অনেকেই এখন দৌড়ের ওপরে আছে। নির্বাচনের দিন কী হয় জানি না। প্রতিপক্ষ যদি মাঠে না থাকে, তাহলে একতরফা ভোট হবে।
মেয়র পদে মূল লড়াই হচ্ছে আওয়ামী লীগ প্রার্থী রেজাউল করিম চৌধুরী ও বিএনপির দুই প্রার্থী শাহাদাত হোসেনের মধ্যে। আর ওয়ার্ড কাউন্সিলর পদে ৪১টি ওয়ার্ডের মধ্যে ৩৯টিতে ভোট হচ্ছে। এর মধ্যে ৩২টিতে আছে আওয়ামী লীগের বিদ্রোহী প্রার্থী।
২০১৫ সালের সিটি করপোরেশন নির্বাচনের তুলনায় এবার ভোটার বেড়েছে ১ লাখ ১৫ হাজার। প্রথমবার ভোটার যাঁরা, তাঁদের মধ্যে ভোট দেওয়ার আগ্রহ আছে। তাঁদেরই একজন বেসরকারি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থী ওমর ইবতেসাম। এই শিক্ষার্থী জানালেন, ‘প্রথমবার ভোটার হয়েছি। করোনা বা কেন্দ্রের পরিবেশ যা–ই থাকুক ভোটকেন্দ্রে যাব।’
এবার ১৯ লাখ ৩৮ হাজার ৭০৬ ভোটারের ৫১ শতাংশ পুরুষ ভোটার। নারী ভোটার ৪৯ শতাংশ বা ৯ লাখ ৪৬ হাজার। বেসরকারি ব্যাংকের কর্মকর্তা মাহমুদা খানম প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, ‘নির্বাচনের দিন অফিস খোলা থাকবে। ভোট দিতে পারব কি না, জানি না। আগে তো অফিসে যেতে হবে।’
ষাট লাখ মানুষের এই শহরে বাসিন্দার তুলনায় ভোটারের হার ৩২ শতাংশ। ভোটারের বাইরে ভাসমান মানুষের সংখ্যা কম নয়। তাদেরই একজন সদরঘাট এলাকায় আনারস বিক্রেতা আহসান উল্লাহ। গ্রামের বাড়ি নোয়াখালীর ভোটার তিনি।
ভোটের উৎসব কেমন দেখলেন? জানালেন, ‘আগে ভোটারদের মধ্যে উৎসব ছিল। দৌড়ে দৌড়ে মিছিল করত। খিদে পেত। আমাদের ব্যবসাও ভালো হতো। এখন শুধু কর্মীদের মধ্যেই সীমাবদ্ধ। তারা হাঁটে, দৌড়ায় না। ব্যবসাও আগের নির্বাচনের মতো হয় না।’
চট্টগ্রামের মূল সড়ক ও অলিগলিতে মাথার ওপরে সারি সারি পোস্টারে সাক্ষ্য দিচ্ছে নির্বাচন আসছে। তবে সে তুলনায় উৎসব উৎসব পরিবেশ নেই। মাঝেমধ্যে সড়কে মিছিল আর মাইকিং যেন স্মরণ করিয়ে দিচ্ছে নির্বাচন কিন্তু হচ্ছেই। প্রচারণার শেষ দিন আজ সোমবার তাও খুব বেশি চোখে পড়ছে না।
